This broad agency has information on Elder Abuse, services available by Protective Services for Adults and provision of services that maximize an individual’s independence, freedom and decision-making ability. Able News

The newspaper “positively” for, by, and about the disabled. This paper has useful information for people with disabilities, families and friends of people with disabilities, involved professionals, volunteers and other interested parties. The paper features all the news that pertains to people with disabilities, a calendar of events, columns written by various experts, a variety of informative articles in a large type format and personal ads.

Captionfish

This site identifies movies at local theaters that have captioned films. Good for seniors, not only deaf individuals.

Disability Moves

Disability Movies is a site that connects you to movies that feature people with disabilities from independent movies to feature films, it also has a list of movies that have audio description.  They also discuss and rate movies based on how the disabled are portrayed.

Disability.gov

Disability.gov is the federal government website for comprehensive information on disability programs and services in communities nationwide. The site links to more than 14,000 resources from federal, state and local government agencies, academic institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

Parenting for Special Needs Online Magazine

Parenting for Special Needs is a great resource for the Special Needs Community.  They have helpful articles with advice and new developments that pertain to special needs and also list events and activities that are for and by people with special needs.

The New York State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities

The NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is responsible for coordinating services for more than 126,000 New Yorkers with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, and other disabilities. It provides services directly and through a network of approximately 700 nonprofit service providing agencies, with about 80 percent of services provided by the private nonprofits and 20 percent provided by state-run services.
